At a distance of 70 km from Kullu, 75 km from Mandi, and 105 km from Manali, Tirthan Valley is a mountain valley located inside the Great Himalayan National Park, Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the most beautiful places in Himachal Pradesh, and among the famous Kullu places to visit, especially for adventure enthusiasts.
Tirthan Valley is one of the four valleys situated in the GHNP, and among the must include places in Kullu holiday packages. Situated at an altitude of 1600 m, Tirthan Valley derives its name from the Tirthan River, which originates from the glaciers of the Himalayas. Tirthan valley stretches from Banjar to Bathad, dotted with a number of villages on the river bank. The entire valley is verdant green with alpine grooves and deciduous forest. Gushaini is the entry point to start trekking into Tirthan valley.
Tirthan Valley has several trekking trails ranging from one day to 8 days starting from Gushani with the distance varying between 10 to 60 km (round trip). It is one of the best trekking places near Delhi. Tirthan valley also serves as a base camp for trekkers to start their trekking into GHNP. The valley is green and good for Trout fishing, overnight camping, river crossing, rappelling, and all kinds of adventure activities. Trout fishing requires a permit.
Gushaini is the preferred base for organizing long treks inside the national park as well as day hikes to remote villages nestled in the middle of the deodar forest. With intricately carved temples of wooden and stone slabs, Bandal is a serene hamlet a few hours hike from Gushaini.
The best season to visit the Tirthan Valley is from May - October.
