At a distance of 30 km from Naldehra and 44 km from Shimla, the Shaily Peak or Shali Tibba is a mountain peak situated near Khatnol in Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the popular places to visit near Shimla, and among the best places for trekking in Himachal .
Perched at an altitude of 9,423 feet, the Shaily Peak is one of the most beautiful trekking destinations near Shimla. The peak provides a 360-degree magnificent view of Shimla, Mashobra, Kufri, Fagu, and Narkanda. It looks exceptionally stunning during the sunrise and the sunset. There is a temple at the top dedicated to Bhima Kali, a goddess, who is highly revered by locals. Devotees flock to the top regularly, especially during Navratri. The temple has been constructed with wood and stones, typical of rural Himalayan architecture. A trail to the temple was constructed in 1936 by the Raja of Faridkot. The same trail exists today and is in a good shape.
Surrounded by forests, rocky trails, and dense vegetation, this peak attracts a lot of adventurers and trekkers as part of Shimla packages. The snow-capped Himalayan mountain-ranges and beautiful landscapes located here are hard to miss, and the fresh breeze gives you a peaceful environment. Away from the hustle of Shimla, the 8 km trek to Shali Peak from the Khatnol, the base village is beautiful, easy and can be completed in 5 hours. The up is constant, but the trail is wide and there are many switchbacks to limit the steepness. For those who are not keen on trekking a rocky trail, there is a motorable track to reach the peak. Besides, one can also hire ponies to reach the peak with a nominal charge. It is one of the best trekking places near Delhi.
The beautiful scenery around Khatnol makes your day memorable as you drive your way to the peak. It is best suggested to start trekking early in the morning. It is absolutely spectacular during sunrise and sunset. Be sure to pack adequate food and water if you plan to undertake the long yet gorgeous trek as there are no shops.
