WARGAL - VEMULAWADA (FROM HYDERABAD)

At a distance of 52 km from Hyderabad, 80 km from Medak and 61 km from Siddipet, The Saraswati Temple situated on a hillock at Wargal village in Medak District of Telangana is the most famous Saraswati temple in the state after Basara. The Wargal Saraswati Temple is one among the few temples of goddess Saraswati in Telangana. Also known as Sri Vidya Saraswati Temple, it was built by Sri Yamavaram Chandrashekhara Sharma. The temple foundation stone was laid in 1989. On 1992 Sri Vidya Nrusinha Bharati Swamy has laid the foundation to the statues of Goddess Sri Vidya Saraswathi Devi and Lord Shani. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple belongs to 9th century CE. It was built by Chalukya king Bhaddega during 850-895 CE. The temple is surrounded by a massive stone compound. This temple boasts wonderful is architecture. Built in the Nagara style, the temple is built on a raised platform with a mukhamandapa, an entrance hall and a Sanctum Sanctorum. The raised platform has a variety of rich carvings of Siva, Dasavataras and the Panchatantra stories.

The temple is nestled on a small hillock on the Vemulawada - Karimnagar highway. It is a small shrine dedicated to Lord Lakshmi Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The idol was carved out of the rock around which the temple was built. The visitors have to walk a few hundred steps that lead to the top from nearest the parking area at bottom.
