At a distance of 19 Kms from Mangalore Railway Station, Polali Sri Raja Rajeshwari Temple is a popular place of worship in Dakshina Kannada. This temple is believed to be 2000 years old has great historic importance. In Sanskrit the place is called Puliapura and called Polali in Kannada.
The deity was called Porala Devi in ancient days. River Phalguni flows around the temple. The 10 feet icon in the temple is the tallest clay idol in India. Sri Subrahmanya, Sri Ganesha and others are also worshipped alongside.
The annual festival is celebrated for 7 days in the month of Feb/Mar. On the final day of annual festival, 5 day long football matches are conducted which are very popular. This ritual is called Polali Chendu.
