A bachelor in fine arts, Gowri, took four months of hard work and unwavering dedication to create this unique museum. The museum was inaugurated in 2014 on a one-acre land at the base of Chamundi Hills. The museum is an excellent example of creative brilliance.
Sand Sculpture Museum displays around 150 sculptures of sand that were created in 16 different themes using more than 115 truckloads of sand. Various interesting themes have been used at the museum such as Mysore Mysore's cultural heritage, wildlife, religion, and fairy tales. Created solely with sand and water and a small amount of glue, these sand sculptures captivate every visitor with their entrancing beauty. Although sand sculptures are usually created on beaches for a short period. At this museum, these sand sculptures can last up to 1 year as they are preserved within the museum's metal enclosure, with the overhead waterproof sheets allowing sunlight to pass through.
Visitors will be greeted by a gigantic 15 feet high statue of Lord Ganesha at the entrance of the museum. Goddess Chamundeshwari, erstwhile Mysore King Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wodiyar who is shown seated on his throne during a Dasara festival, Lord Krishna and Arjuna on a horse-drawn chariot, Laughing Buddha, Christmas tree and Santa Claus, Disneyland, ancient Egypt, zodiac wheel, instances from Arabian nights, Tom & Jerry cartoon, etc. are other prominent sculptures at this museum.
There is also 3D Selfie Gallery that has the 3D artwork of N.M. Chaluvaraj who has put up 17 different works in the space. The specialty here is that the artwork appears to be three-dimensional only when a visitor interacts with it. In the image of an angel with wings spread out, the 3D impact becomes perceptible only when the visitor stands in front of it or else it will appear to be flat.
