At a distance of 2.5 km from Guruvayur Railway Station, and 3 km from Guruvayur Temple, Thiru Venkatachalapathy Temple is another prominent temple in Guruvayur, Kerala. Situated at Thiruvenkidom, it is one of the must-visit Guruvayur tourist places.

The Thiru Venkatachalapathy Temple is a sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Venkatachalapathy, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. With a history dating back centuries, this ancient shrine stands out in various aspects. Notably, the deity worshipped in this temple is the same as Lord Balaji in the renowned Tirumala Temple in Andra Pradesh.

According to astrological findings, a sage from the Tirumala Temple ventured to Guruvayur with the intention of establishing a temple for Lord Venkitachalapathy. After sitting by the side of the present temple tank and offering prayers, he obtained permission from the Lord to build a temple in Guruvayur. The sage then brought an idol from Tirupati and established this temple. Unfortunately, the original idol was damaged by enemies, but it was reinstalled in 1977. Another remarkable aspect of this temple is the installation of an idol of Bhagavathy, which took place approximately 600 years after the original installation of Lord Venkitachalapathy.

Devotees flock to the Thiru Venkatachalapathy Temple throughout the year to seek the blessings of Lord Venkatachalapathy and offer their prayers. However, the annual Brahmotsavam of Lord Thiru Venkitachalapathy is celebrated with great grandeur and enthusiasm in April/May.
