At a distance of 27 Kms from Kottayam Railway Station, St. Thomas Cathedral is an 11th century Syrian Church located in Palai town.
The Church was constructed in the year 1002 by four Syrian Christian families of Palai. It was destroyed by Muslim invaders and was reconstructed after 17th century. The church was built with the support of Hindu rulers and it resembles temple architecture. A new Church was constructed by Portuguese near the old church following European architecture.
The annual festival is called 'Rakkulithirunal' celebrated on 6th January every year.
