Punarjani means rebirth, and this cultural center aims to revitalize the long-aged traditions of Kerala. Visitors can watch the performances of Kathakali - the classical dance form, and Kalaripayattu - one of the deadliest martial arts in India.
Kathakali shows feature a proficient performance, presenting a blend of storytelling, music, and dance. In this show, a person narrates a story from the Hindu epics or folk tales, and Kathakali artists act and dance using their hands and facial gestures to portray their emotions and expressions. Also, the musicians play traditional musical instruments in the background. Kalaripayattu is the local martial art form in which two or more fighters perform on the stage showing their attacking and defending moves, running around, doing somersaults, and extreme physical stunts for the fight. This fight show takes place in a separate combat arena, featuring various handheld weapons, including swords, spears, & daggers. Fire stunts are also performed.
