At a distance of 16 Kms from Trivandrum Central Railway Station, Koyikkal Palace located in Nedumangad is a 16th century Palace built by Umayamma Rani of the Venad Royal family.
This palace houses Asia's biggest Folklore Museum setup by the Department of Archaeology in 1992 and Numismatics Museum. The Numismatics Museum is the most elegant fraction that can be enjoyed by the tourists and it is one of the most exclusive Museums in the country. The Museum has some of the marvelous collection of musical instruments like Chandravalayam (which is not found else where in the country) and Nanthuni. The museum also has coins belonging to the Gwalior Royal Family, the Nizam of Hyderabad, Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan etc. The exhibits in the museum draw attention to the rich cultural heritage of Kerala.
