Located on the Kottayam-Idukki border, it is one of the offbeat hill stations in Kerala, and among the must-include places in Kerala Tour Packages.
Perched at an altitude of 1100 m, Vagamon is surrounded by 3 hills namely, Thangal hill, Murugan hill, and Kurisumala at the foothills of Western Ghats. Also known as the Scotland of Asia, Vagamon was discovered by the British who found the place ideal for tea plantations, and they were followed by Christian missionaries who built their abode of service at Kurisumala in Vagamon. National Geographic Traveler has listed Vagamon on their directory of the '50 most attractive places to visit in India'.
Vagamon is comprised of a beautiful series of hillocks, valleys, and cascading waterfalls that make it one of the popular places to visit near Kochi. Pine forests, grasslands, meadows, vast tea estates, and even a popular suicide point, add to the natural beauty of Vagamon. Pine Forests, Thangalpara, Kurisumala, Murugan Hill, Vagamon Meadows, Marmala Waterfalls, Karikdu Viewpoint, and Illikkal Kallu are some of the top tourist places to visit as part of Vagamon tour packages. Vagamon is also famous for a wide variety of orchids. Wild buffaloes, rare species of birds, insects, and elephants can also be located in the forests of Vagamon.
