Tilwara Ghat is one of the best-developed ghats of the Narmada river in Jabalpur. Tilwara Ghat has got its significance from the days of the Indian freedom struggle when Mahatma Gandhi used to come over to the ghat during his stay in Jabalpur. It is also the place where the mortal remains of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed after his death. To commemorate the event, a memorial is also built at the same place. It was also at this place that the opening session of the Tripuri Congress was held in 1936. It took place in a red dome-shaped structure and even now you can see the flag of India hoisted here.
Famous for its natural beauty and historical importance, this place is considered as holy as the river Ganga and lakhs of people take a dip at this very ghat every year. The Tilwadeshwar temple here, dedicated to Lord Shiva, attracts a lot of pilgrims. It is one of the oldest temples in Jabalpur and is noted for its architectural splendor. A visit to the ghat and a dip in the pious waters of the river is sure to rejuvenate your mind and soul.
