At a distance of 0.5 km from Alwar Railway Station, Fateh Jang Gumbad, or the tomb of Fateh Jang, is a historical tomb located in Alwar. It is one of the must-include places in Alwar leisure packages.
Fateh Jang Gumbad was erected in 1647 and is dedicated to Fateh Jang, a minister in the court of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. This tomb exemplifies a harmonious blend of Indo-Islamic architectural styles and Rajputana influences. It stands as a remarkable symbol of the architectural splendor of past civilizations, providing insight into the lives and contributions of historical figures.
The structure comprises five stories, three of which measure 60 feet, are square in shape, and share equal dimensions, featuring seven openings on each side. At each corner, there are four octagonal minarets. The tomb is crowned with a grand dome, while the minarets further enhance its aesthetic appeal. The walls and ceilings are adorned with intricate floral motifs, Islamic arches, and calligraphic inscriptions, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of the era. Visitors are invited to climb the steps leading to the central dome, which offers sweeping views of the surrounding cityscape.
This historical site is preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. A small garden encircles the tomb, accompanied by a signboard that provides information about its historical significance.
