Karni Mata Mandir, Alwar - Timings, History, Darshan, Pooja Timings

At a distance of 8 km from Alwar Railway Station, Karni Mata Mandir is revered Hindu temple in the city of Alwar. It is one of the major places to visit as part of Alwar pilgrimage tours.

Karni Mata Temple in Alwar is dedicated to Goddess Karni Mata, who is worshipped as an incarnation of Hinglaj or Durga. She is recognized as the principal deity of numerous royal families in Rajasthan, particularly those from Bikaner and Jodhpur. The temple was founded by Bakhtawar Singh, the second ruler of the former Alwar princely state, in the Bala Qila area between 1792 and 1815, following the fulfillment of his personal wish. The idol of Karni Mata has been venerated at this site since then, and subsequently, the Devasthan Department assumed the responsibility of overseeing the worship.

Historically, Bakhtawar Singh resided in Bala Quila with his wife, Roop Kanwar. One day, he experienced excruciating stomach pain that persisted despite various treatments from local healers. His court guard, Baraith, suggested that he meditate on Maa Karni. Following this counsel, Bakhtawar Singh engaged in meditation, during which a white eagle appeared and sat on the Bala Qila. Upon gazing at the eagle, his stomach pain was alleviated. In gratitude, he established the shrine of Karanimata within the premises of Bala Qila.

The principal idol of Karni Mata is depicted holding a trishool. The temple has garnered a deep-seated faith among devotees, who believe that no one leaves empty-handed from the presence of Maa, as she is said to fulfill the wishes of all who seek her blessings. During the festival of Navratri, a fair is held at Karni Mata Temple in Alwar, attracting a significant number of devotees who gather for darshan. This fair continues for the entire nine days of Navratri.
