At a distance of 11 km from Jaipur Railway Station, the Jhalana Leopard Safari Park is situated within the boundaries of Jhalana, Jaipur. It is one of the must-include places in Jaipur wildlife packages.
Spread across an area of 23 sq. km, Jhalana Leopard Safari Park is nestled lazily in the foothills of the stunning Aravalli mountain range. Earlier, the park was the exclusive property of the erstwhile Jaipur estate, primarily utilized by the royal family for recreational activities and to fulfill the fuel and fodder requirements of surrounding villages. In 2017, the Rajasthan Forest Department designated Jhalana as a Leopard Reserve, making it as India's first such reserve.
The establishment of the park aimed to conserve and safeguard the leopard population in the area. It offers a secure habitat for these magnificent big cats, which once thrived in the Aravalli hills but have faced significant challenges due to urban development and habitat loss. The park serves as an excellent gateway for an adventurous holiday, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying remarkable sightings of diverse wildlife.
Jhalana Leopard Safari Park is abundant in both flora and fauna, characterized by northern tropical dry deciduous forest vegetation. Currently, the park is home to over 40 leopards. In addition to leopards, visitors may encounter striped hyenas, Indian civets, desert cats, jungle cats, desert foxes, jackals, porcupines, jungle rats, as well as sambar deer, spotted deer, blue bulls, and various snake species. Furthermore, the park is a haven for bird watchers, hosting numerous bird species, including the Indian Pitta, dusky eagle, owls, spotted owlets, Indian rollers, sikras, and hawks. Visitors can also explore Shikaar Audi, the three-story hunting lodge of the Jaipur royal family, along with a prominent Kali Mata temple and a Jain Chulgiri temple.
One of the primary attractions of the Jhalana Leopard Safari Park is the guided leopard safari tour. The park is segmented into two distinct safari zones, with tours conducted across both areas. Visitors have the opportunity to engage in exhilarating safari rides through the park's rugged landscape in specially equipped vehicles, accompanied by knowledgeable guides and naturalists. The safari experience is authentic and immersive, allowing guests to observe wildlife in its natural environment.
