SRC Museum Of Indology, Jaipur - Timings, Entry Fee, History & Artifacts

At a distance of 1 km from Jaipur Junction Railway Station, SRC Museum of Indology is a private museum located at Jawaharlal Nehru Marg in Jaipur.

The museum was constructed by Ram Charan Sharma in the year 1960. The museum houses a treasure trove of rare and priceless private collection which includes folk-art objects and other valuables including a manuscript penned down by Aurangzeb, a 200-year-old mirror work swing from Bikaner and a glass bed built for a queen. The colorful dyed textiles from various parts of the globe add worth to the collection of this museum.

The collection of Acharya Ram Charan Sharma Vyakul involves thousands of items of different themes. The collections are divided into 18 sections. A huge collection of paintings done on different media including cloth, skin, glass, paper, wood and ivory using water colour, lacquer and oil paint. These paintings have diverse subjects ranging from pictures of kings, nobles and saints, stories from the epics Ramayana, Mahabharata, Raslilas of Lord Krishna, images of Ragas and Raginis, depiction of the 12 months of the year, etc. The folk paintings collection consists of images of Lord Ganesh and Lakshmi, pictures of birds, animals and buildings. The largest collection on a single subject is on Serpent logy on which there is a collection of a thousand paintings.

The museum has a bountiful collection of manuscripts. Around 15,000 manuscripts are on display here. Some of them are exemplified and some of them are being printed on interesting mediums such as stick of a bark, paper, cardamom peel and palm leaves etc. The archival section has 8000 chronological manuscripts that are in black and white.

Numerous sculptures are exhibited in the arcades of the museum. Unique collection of Tantric objects used to practice Tantricism is also displayed in this museum. There are over 6000 samples of designer-woven textile collection that are beautifully created with embroidery work and bright colored prints.

Entry Fee: Rs.20 for Indians and Rs.100 for Foreigners.
