Located at a distance of 1 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station (near local Fort Railway Station), Fort St. George was built in the year 1640 by the British East India Company, under the supervision of Francis Day and Andrew Cogon. The Fort has a 20 feet thick wall. The flag staff at this fort is the tallest in India with a height of 150 ft.

St. Mary's Church - St. Mary's Church, within the Fort St. George, was established in 1680, and it is one of the oldest churches in India. The tombstones that are found within the premises of the Fort St. George, are among the oldest tombstones of British origin in India.
