At a distance of 3 km from Coimbatore Junction, Sri Puliakulam Vinayagar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Puliyakuam locality of Coimbatore. It is one of the prominent Ganesha temples in Tamilnadu, and among the top places to visit in Coimbatore.
Also known as Arulmigu Mundhi Vinayagar Temple, Puliyakulam Vinayagar Ganesh Temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, and the deity is called here as Munthi Vinayakar. Built-in the year 1993, the temple has the largest Ganesh idol in the entire Aisa. The idol of the Lord stands about 20 feet tall and is over 11 feet broad sculpted from a single massive rock by 21 highly skilled sculptors. The idol is seen sitting on the lotus flower with a pot of nectar which he is having through its trunk. Sculptors took 6 years to complete the idol. The idol has 4 hands, one hand holds a piece of Mahabharata writings, the other holds the Angus, one holding jack fruit, and in the other lotus flower.
The deity here is known as Vighnaharta and is believed as visiting this temple will relieve the sufferings and the pains. The major festival which is celebrated in the temple is Ganesha Chaturthi. It is a delight to see the idol beautifully decorated with tons of flowers. Elaborate rituals are followed and many people come to visit and get blessings from the Lord. It is a 10-day festival celebrated in the month of August-September, during the Hindu month called Bhadrapada.
