At a distance of 11 km from Kumbakonam, Sri Vittal Rukmini Mandir is located at Sri Vittal Rukmini Samsthan's premise at Govindapuram. It is one of the must-visit pilgrimage sites in Kumbakonam.
Located along the Kumbakonam-Aduthurai highway, Sri Vittal Rukmini Samsthan, previously referred to as Sri Panduranga Bhajanashram is an expansive Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and his consort Rukmini. Founded in 1998 by Brahmashri Vittaldas Jayakrishna Deekshithar, this sacred site embodies an atmosphere of peace and serenity. The primary aim of the temple is to promote the Bhakti movement through Namasankeerthanam.
The temple showcases a blend of Maharashtrian and South Indian architectural styles, occupying a substantial area of 32,000 square feet. It features two levels, with the upper level containing the Garbha Griham (sanctum sanctorum) of Sri Vittal Rukmini, as well as the Ardha Mandapam, Maha Mandapam, and Vasantha Mandapam, which can accommodate up to 2,000 individuals while on the ground floor, visitors will find a library and meditation halls, offering a selection of valuable socio-religious literature for devotees. The designated Meditation Hall provides a tranquil space for quiet reflection.
The main tower rises to a height of 132 feet, topped with a large Kalash. The interior walls are adorned with depictions of stories related to Sri Krishna, Sant Tukaram, and various Marathi poets and saints. Additionally, the temple grounds feature 16 large statues of Lord Krishna in various divine postures, as well as a small pond for devotees wishing to bathe.
