The museum was established to create an awareness of Indian mythology. It was established by Kunda Satyanarayana in memory of his son Surendra. It is also known locally as Kunda Satyanarayana Kala Dhamam.

Surendrapuri is created as a center of artistic and sculptural excellence and an abode of all divine worlds. Visitors can have the darshan of all the deities of well-known pilgrimage centers of India. Here we get to see the replicas of all the famous temples of India at one place.

The great celestial worlds of Bramhaloka, Vishnuloka, Shivaloka, Nagaloka, Indraloka, Yamaloka, Narakaloka and Patalaloka can be visited here. The experience of walking through the seven doors of Vishnuloka with the dashavataras on both sides is memorable. All the sections are designed in such a way that you get transported into a celestial world.

Various mythological scenes of war between Rama and Ravana in Ramayana, including Padmavyuha in Kurukshetra between Kauravas and Pandavas in Mahabharata are carved beautifully and portrayed in great detail. The churning of Ksheera Sagara (milky ocean) is a beautiful piece of artwork. In the same way, the sculptures of Lord Vishnu and goddess Lakshmi to save Gajendra from the clutches of Crocodile stand as a wonderful symbol of devotion.
