At a distance of 88 km from Ras Al Khaimah, 95 km from Sharjah, 112 km from Dubai, and 233 km from Abu Dhabi, Fujairah is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. Fujairah is the capital of the emirate of the same name and among the top places to visit in UAE as part of Dubai Tour Packages.

Calm and serene, the Emirate of Fujairah is a picturesque beach town tucked away from the fast-paced city life. The emirate shares its boundaries with the emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah on the west and the emirate of Sharjah to the south. On the north, it shares its international border with the Sultanate of Oman. It is the only emirate that is located completely on the eastern coast of the UAE along the Gulf of Oman. The emirate is separated from the rest of the United Arab Emirates by the jagged line of the Hajar Mountains and offers an enchanting landscape and a simple lifestyle.

Al Fujairah has had a turbulent modern history, the central theme of which has been the power struggle between the sheikhdom of Sharjah which annexed the area about 1850, and the sheikh of Al-Fujairah and his allies, who desired independence. Alone among the Trucial States that now form the United Arab Emirates, Al Fujairah was not recognized as independent by Great Britain in the 19th century but was considered a part of Al-Shariqah, otherwise known as Sharjah. The sheikh of AlFujairah staged numerous uprisings against Al Shariqah, and by 1886 he was a virtually independent ruler. In 1952, the British government accepted Al Fujairah as an autonomous state and the sheikh signed a truce treaty with Britain. Fujairah joined the United Arab Emirates in 1971 as its 7th emirate.

The total area of the emirate of Fujairah is 1,450 sq. km and is the fifth-largest emirate in the UAE. The Emirate derives its name from a spring of water located beneath one of the mountains. Not much oil was ever found in Fujairah. The emirate depends on agriculture, boat building and fishing for its economy.

Calm and serene, the Fujairah city is a picturesque beach town tucked away from the fast-paced city life. The beaches of Fujairah are some of the nicest in the UAE. This beautiful slice of coastline is ideal for several maritime activities including sailing, rowing, water surfing, yachting, deep-sea fishing and swimming almost throughout the year. Fujairah is host to the annual powerboat racing championships. Away from the sand, Fujairah is a great base for exploring the Hajar Mountains and the series of small forts and historical buildings, such as Al-Bidyah Mosque, Fujairah Fort, Bithnah Fort, Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Al-Hayl Castle and Awhlah Fort.

Fujairah has its own airport known as Fujairah International Airport(FJR) but it only operates cargo traffic currently. At a distance of about 112 km and 233 km, Dubai International Airport and Abu Dhabi International Airport are the nearest airports to Al Fujairah as these are well connected by flight with the Middle East, Europe, Asia and other parts of the world. One can reach Fujairah by taxi or bus from Dubai or any other place in the UAE. Commuting around Fujairah is quite easy with readily available taxis at affordable prices almost anywhere in the city.

The weather is seasonal, although it is warm most of the year. The best time to visit Fujairah is between the months of October and March when the weather is cool and ideal for sightseeing. The summer months of May-August are pretty hot. Escalation of heat and humidity makes it uncomfortable for outdoor activities and sightseeing during this time. However, due to the presence of the Hajar mountain range, the precipitation levels are slightly higher than the other emirates.
