Al Noor Island is a serene oasis in the middle of Sharjah city which offers something to everyone from the phenomenal lighting displays and exceptional art sculptures to the beautiful fluttering butterflies and the seclusion of the Literature Pavilion. Since its opening in 2015, Al Noor Island has won a host of prestigious international awards. The Island was named Best Leisure Architecture in Africa and Arabia 2016 as part of the International Property Awards and was also the recipient of the IF Design Award 2017 and German Design Award 2018. Besides this, the Butterfly House has also won the WAN Metal Architecture Award in 2016 for innovatively presenting a unique design.
Al Noor Island is home to an architecturally stunning Butterfly House, serene Literature Pavilion and contemporary sculptures by some of the world's most famous artists. Home to more than 500 butterflies belonging to 20 different exotic species, the Butterfly House is the island's biggest attraction. This dreamy space is located inside an ergonomically designed, nature-inspired structure that retains humidity and allows natural light to enter the butterfly haven. Some of the most precious winged beauties at the Butterfly House include the pink rose, emerald swallowtail, and the tailed jay. A cafeteria is also available within the Butterfly House.
The island is home to around 7000 trees and plants which will allow being connected with nature and its diversity. One will find 250 years-old olive trees, bottle and umbrella-shaped trees, medicinal plants, towering cactus, and ornamental grass. There are also 300 million-year-old crystal rocks and art sculptures installed at various points. A 3.5 km-long boardwalk snakes through landscaped gardens, while light installations bring the island to life at night. There is also a play area for children and a Literate Pavilion where visitors can relax. At the Literature Pavilion, the environment is blessed with a light musical background with the soothing sounds of a fountain, which will make you relax and forget your life stresses.
