At a distance of 2 km from Hastinapur Bus Station, Jambudweep Jain Mandir is a Digambara Jain temple in Hastinapur, Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the most significant Jain places of pilgrimage in Uttar Pradesh, and among the prominent places to visit in Hastinapur.
Jambudweep Jain Mandir in Hastinapur was built under the blessings of Gyanmati Mataji, a renowned Jain Saadhvi. It is believed that the Saadhvi saw the vision of a grand Madhyalok (Middle Universe) along with thirteen islands (Terahdweep), while she was meditating below the sacred idol of Bhagwan Bahubali in the Vindhya Mountain in 1965. Discovering later that what she had seen perfectly matched the cosmographical details described in Jain scriptures, she decided to create a pilgrimage site to create a model of Jambudvipa. The foundation stone of the temple was laid in 1974 and was completed in 1985. Jambudweep Trilok Sodh Sansthan' has been established at Jambudweep, Hastinapur to raise awareness regarding the Jain Cosmology and Jain Philosophy.
The official name of this temple is Digambar Jain Institute of Cosmographic Research. It is an attractive and interesting place to visit. The structure of Jambudweep, depicting Jain Geography, is the model of our grand universe. It is built with white and colored Marble stones in a diameter of 250 feet. The Sumeru Mountain, located in the center of the structure is also considered the Centre of the Universe by the Jain Community. It is built entirely of light pink marble. The 101 feet high, Sumeru Mountain divides the structure into four distinctive regions- East, West, North, and South. The East and West Region, known as East Videh Kshetra and West Videh Kshetra are used for meditation and lectures of Gurus. The South region, with the prominence of Bharat Kshetra, contains the structures of Himvan Mountains, Ganga-Sindhu Rivers, Bhogbumis, or the land of enjoyment and also consists of beautiful lush trees, temples, ponds, and gardens. The North region also has similar structures but with different names, having the Airavat Kshetra as the prominent structure.
Apart, one can also visit Lotus Temple, Teen Murti Mandir, and Meditation Temple located in the same temple complex. Jambudweep offers knowledge, spirituality, and entertainment altogether. The place is considered a good spot for family outings and day-picnics because of its beautiful gardens and mesmerizing view. The areas near the temple premises also offer fun activities like boating and Elephant riding.
